March 1 - Starting March!

I have a couple favorite parts of slicing every day. The first is that I do it every year with my mom (and now my sister, Clare). Even though we talk almost daily anyways, slicing gives both of us an extra ‘in’ to each other’s lives that we don’t typically have living halfway across the country.

My other favorite part is the heightened awareness slicing brings to the silly little ‘slices’ of life. I pay attention to the people around me at the grocery store, or the way my coworker pronounces a word, or the advertisements lining my street. Mundane things take on meaning. Anything can be content.

This weekend, the content is going to be anything but lacking. My mom is coming to town and I swear the weather knows it. It’s going to be 60+º and fairly sunny all weekend here in Chicago - we don’t love global warming, but a 65º March Sunday is really hard to be upset about. We have plans to play pickleball, do yoga, eat food, and explore my neighborhood. The slices are writing themselves.

We chose this weekend on a whim, mostly because it was the soonest one that worked for both of us. As luck will have it, it also means that we’re going to be spending some of the first days of March slicing together for the first time since I (think I??) was in high school. We’re going to spend this visit with a heightened awareness and appreciation for all of the fun moments in between and we’ll be documenting them.

I can’t think of a better way to start March :)
