March 20th - Field Trip

I’m writing this with a pink forehead.

Earlier today, my boyfriend’s (Austin’s) sister texted us that she absolutely needed a field trip. I opted to get some work done, and Austin and Amelia headed out for the Asian market. I knew it was a dangerous duo to send; they both get a real kick out of crazy food they’ve never seen before. The other day, I was coerced by Austin into trying duck heart (for those curious: as someone who does not like liver, I did not like the meaty aftertaste of duck heart).

Boy, was I right.

Amelia and Austin returned with room temperature mochi balls, coca cola flavored potato chips, banana Pocky sticks, lychee coconut jelly, and a plethora of other snacks that I had never heard of in my life. We filled up our water bottles, leashed up the dogs, and headed to the park, two full bags of snacks in tow.

Once we got settled, we opened each item, trying things one by one. The “Spicy Lotus Pod With Spicy” (which they had mainly gotten due to the hilarious overuse of the word “spicy”) was, in fact, very spicy, and totally not my speed. However, the “Pea Crackers” were comparable to frito twists and completely worthy of binge-snacking.

We lay on blankets and threw frisbees and chatted about the world and ate our strange (to us) Asian snacks.

Quite a lovely afternoon, if you ask me.
