Miscommunication
“Larkin, what was the Saie product you said you use?”
An incredibly flattering text to receive in our little three-way group chat from my friend Madi. Madi always looks good. I do not think she needs any new makeup. But her wanting my rec means she liked how I looked - hence the me being flattered.
Lucky for her, I’m already on the couch working on my laptop, so I immediately pull up the link and send it through. “I also really like this,” I say, and throw in my favorite Saie brush for good measure.
“Thank you thank you, gonna buy it now.”
Sarah and I, the other 2 pieces of the three-way group chat, look at each other across the cushions. “Do you think she means in person?” I say.
Sarah shrugs. “Probably!”
“Mads, in person?” I text.
“Yes!” she says.
Sarah and I share another look. “Wanna go to Sephora…?” I give her a nudge with my foot. She makes a show of raising one brow and then the other, scrunching up her face like it’s a really, really tricky decision.
Then, “Yep!!”
We spring into action. I throw on some sweats, she grabs a ponytail holder.
“Okay, but I don’t need makeup. Remind me of that.” I give her a pointed look.
“Oh my gosh, no. Of course you don’t need makeup,” she replies, seeming borderline horrified at the inclination. I’m a little hurt. Sarah is not usually one to rain on my shopping parade.
I pout. “But what if I really want something!”
This time her raised brow is one of confusion, and then she breaks out laughing. “Larkin, I thought you were asking me if you should put on makeup right now.”
Spoiler alert: I did not wear makeup to Sephora. I did, however, buy makeup at Sephora, and Sarah was extremely supportive.
I’m so lucky to live in a place where I can last minute walk to Sephora with two of my best friends!
