March 3rd - Oat Milk Lavender Lattes
I don’t usually drink coffee. My normal morning is a very green smoothie and a cup of black or green tea. I think the biggest reason, honestly, that coffee isn’t my morning DOC is because I’m too lazy. The french press is a disaster to clean, especially if you’re wary of grounds going down the disposal (which I very much am). And I’ve been hesitant to get an actually maker or espresso machine because, as I’ve realized, I just don’t need it.
This is my long winded way of saying that when I really want coffee, I go out and get it.
This morning felt like one of those mornings. It’s a high of 65 degrees here and I love the excuse for a quick morning walk - and I love it even more if it can be sans jacket. At the very cute coffee shop a block from my house, they offer a whole plethora of syrup options for your latte. I really don’t like super sweet things (besides the occasional watermelon sour patch), but they have a lavender syrup that is just * chef’s kiss * with an oat milk latte. Because I am slightly narcissistic and very much the main character of every story in my head, I was more or less convinced that this was a drink only I knew about because my friend had enlightened me. She and I were the only two people who could possibly order an oat milk latte with a splash of lavender syrup.
I stood there in the plant-filled coffee shop, admiring all the fun different colored glass vases they’d acquired, until the barista called out: Iced oat milk latte, light lavender syrup. Hm. I had ordered hot. But it’s a beautiful day here in Denver, and iced suddenly seemed like the right choice. What serendipity, I thought, as I walked up to grab the latte.
…And the woman who had been right in front of me in line beat me to it. Fortunately my mask covered my slightly agape jaw. My hot oat milk lavender latte was put out in just another minute.
The secret is out. Oat milk lavender lattes are where it’s at.
